Having a wonderful weekend

Filed under: my life — croptopia @ 11:23 am

Friday was my birthday and my husband surprised me with tickets to the local dinner theatre.  We had a wonderful dinner and then the waiters and waitresses became actors and the McBunkers went to visit their relatives in Cape Breton.  Maude and her husband Walter were there, along with Meat-Head and Gloria.  Archie and Edith were side splitting.  Archies parents in Cape Breton were too funny for words.  It was so nice to get out and laugh.

Yesterday we went down into the Annapolis Valley in search of the Bald Eagle.  We found buttermilk pancakes with stewed blueberry sauce and local maple syrup.  We didn’t get there early enough to see the main group of eagles but we did see one sitting in a tree as we drove out.  Bruce missed getting the picture as he couldn’t get the camera in focus quickly enough.

I spent the rest of Saturday putting together the invoices and registration confirmations for CropTopia.  We have 77 people signed up now.  With registration cut off around 100 we are well on the way.

I am spending the evening tonight getting all the new items entered and getting our online store ready to launch.  It is a big job to build a store from scratch.  I was supposed to be at a  crafting workshop tonight but decided to give it a pass this time.

I am having an interesting time trying to figure out all the ways to use this blog.  I try something new everyday.  Today I put my picture at the top.  Let me introduce myself.  My name is Susan and I am married to Bruce.  We raised four children; Patrick, Matthew, Lisa and Jason.  They are all married now and they have had 10 children.

We have lived in England and in many parts of Canada; Ottawa, Burlington, Waterloo, Victoria, Dartmouth.

I am into scrapbooking, sewing, reading and computer games.

I am very active in my church and love to teach others about my friend Jesus.

I am spending much of my time these days developing my plans for CropTopia.

Welcome to my blog

Let me introduce myself.  I am one of the owners of CropTopia Scrapbooking INC.  I have been in the scrapbooking business community for about 10 years.  I started as a Creative Memories consultant.  I didn’t like the selling all that much but I loved to teach people to scrapbook.  I started holding all day crops in my dining room and branched out to the livingroom.  I joined forces with my friend Chrystal, who had a home business selling scrapbooking supplies.  We had a fun doing crops and decided to hold a weekend retreat.  We called it CropTopia and had 34 participants.  We didn’t any money on that first attempt but everyone had fun.

Later that year we realized that there weren’t many good products available in Canada so we formed wholesale company, Paper Partners,  and started selling to the local stores coast to coast.

The next spring we started we moved our retreat to Camp IAWAH and were amazed to see 110 participants sign up.  We have been holding them every year since.

A couple of years later, my son Matt replaced Chrystal as my business partner, when she moved on to other endeavours.  He handles our warehouse in Ontario.  We work well together.  He also runs the store when we hold crops and retreats.

This winter, after 7 years in business,  we have decided to close down Paper Partners and concentrate on CropTopia.  We have incorporated as CropTopia Scrapbooking INC.  We will continue to hold a

  •  3 day spring retreat  at Camp IAWAH near Westport ON.  This years is May 23, 24, 26,
  •  a fund raising crop to for CIBC Run For the CURE  in Ottawa.  This years is September 20
  •  in the fall and a day crop in Cole Harbour Nova Scotia. This is held the 3rd Saturday at 385 Caldwell Road

We are also adding an online store to our site.

I love scrapbooking and hope to use this site to promote new products and techniques.  I will post ideas and completed pages.
